No Coffee For You!

Today I got the following anonymous report from the library:

So you know how you're not supposed to have food or drink in the north addition of the library? Well they never really enforced it last year -- thus the "apple incident." So i went up there today, with a topped off cup paper cup from zeb (the notice says you can have liquids in secured mugs, not paper cups, but i figured how picky can they be?) The notice also says that they would be conducting periodic checks and asking students to discard food or drink that doesn't comply with the notices...key word being "ask." It took me getting up from my carel for literally 45 seconds to check a plug at an adjacent desk before the library tea cup nazi came around and without asking any questions, TOOK my cup, presumably to go throw it away. I was like, WTF!?

She could have at least asked. At that point, maybe I would go downstairs, get my library mug out of my locker and pour it in the mug. I was 5 feet away and she didn't bother to ask whose cup it was, or wait till the owner came back. Their own notice doesn't give them the power to take my shit. I was 5 feet away and even if i wasn't she could have wait people know that students don't wander far when their bags are on the table.

Personally I'm with the librarians on this one. But I really want to know what the gentle readers think.

I love how the no food and drink policy is paired with the frequent warnings about how you should never leave your belongings unattended because people are stealing shit every 5 minutes. So you can't eat, and you can't get up to get something to eat either. Nice.

I'm with the librarians too. No right to bitch if you don't even have any respect in the first place. Probably some bitch ass non-Cali student.

Disappointing. At least for the librarian who walked away muttering, "That'll teach that rule-breaking, tea-drinking, so-and-so to cross the line in my library." Lesson not learned yet, apparently. Personally, I think they should have taken the laptop and books too. Teach the SOB to ignore their anti-theft warnings while school is in session. Don't mess with a librarian with the Rule of Law on his side. Or even near his side.

another vote for the librarians here. I'd also like to add to the "no eating/drinking" rule a "if your cell-phone rings in the library, other students are allowed to destroy it with a copy of Black's Law Dictionary" rule. I was in the library today and FIVE (5) cell-phones rang within a 20 minute period. Seriously, are you soooo important that you have to get that call at 2:30 on a sunday afternoon. Just turn the goddamn thing off.

I like the vibrate feature. For a variety of reasons.

That's just retarded. To get the phone to vibrate you either (a) must switch it to and from the vibrate mode or (b) have someone calling you while on vibrate mode.

If (a), then you might as well keep a vibrator with you while in the library (just don't leave it unattended). And if (b), then you might as well fuck the other person who keeps calling you (while in the library).

if everyone took suggestion (b) to heart, boalt would become a much more pleasant place.

I'm with the librarians. They actually asked me nicely to remove my coffee, and when I feigned ignorance about the rule (total BS) they didn't get huffy but offered me a free mug. So there are good ones out there.

Can we also institute a mandatory kleenex rule? I heard one guy pass the same blob of snot in and out of his sinuses every 30 seconds for the better part of an hour.
