Weighing the Scales

Getting a second speeding ticket for going 102 on I-5 (cf. getting clocked at 105 for first) still felt better than paying for 3/4 of my books.

Oh and freshmen 1Ls, please do not buy Bob Berrings Legal Research book. I'd say the same thing about the LRW reader but I just know none of you are secure enough to take that latter bold step. Mark my words...you will not open that reader more than twice.

1. Since I'm a regular speeder you have to indulge me and specify which incident you're referring to from the outset.

2. With respect to that first one, the statement makes clear that I was speeding when passing the cop and when he caught up to me and that there were cars in between. You're still making assumptions about my speed in the middle.

3. I'll stop toying with you. When passing cars and especially the big rigs traveling on the 5, I drop down to speeds that are safe. So to put your assumptions to rest, I don't put the lives of others around me in danger. Cheers.

An SUV spun out and flipped over when he overcorrected for swerving into my lane. I went slightly off the side but slowed and went completely off the side to help.

Another time a rented taurus had a blowout in front of me and spun out. I avoided him, but the car in the right lane t-boned.

Both of the above were on the I-5 where I was driving as I normally drive. Does that answer your first set of questions? In case the inferences in this case are a little difficult to draw, let me help. In the both cases, not overreacting (e.g. slamming on the brakes or suddenly turning the wheel) kept me from either colliding or fishtailing. In the first, awareness of the road and other drivers kept me from getting sideswiped. In the latter, attention to rubber flying into my windshield kept from rear-ending. So in conclusion, it's easier to control a vehicle at slower speeds, but its awfully difficult at any speed when the driver is an idiot.

Moving on to the probabilities inferences...if I flip a coin 5 times and they all come up heads...(get it?) As far as the cop speeding after me is concerned, I can only refer you to the changes in policy in many police departments to cease high speed pursuits if it only involves a traffic infraction. And this wasn't even a pursuit. Again, I'll let you draw your own conclusions since you seem very apt. Ooh almost forgot, at least during the second time, cop crossed over the median. Wanna blame that on me too?

As for rushing, no excuses.
