Blogathon
Yesterday I did my taxes and even accounting for my spring break trip to Australia, I'll have some hefty change left over, so I figured I'd do something nice (for once) with it. Here it is.
Recently 3Ls got an e-mail about our wonderful classmate and my dear friend HH. Her insurance costs are through the roof, and if you want to help, you can donate care of Holly Parrish. Here's where YOU come in:
For $10, I will let any Boaltie (or prospective Boaltie [as determined by the Admissions Office's reliance on your word]), staff, or faculty to post here on N & B for a month. I will of course match that $10, and donate to the worthy cause. At the end of the blogging term of service, the current bloggers (and maybe the readers) will vote on permanent tenured offers to continue N & B. If you are interested, please e-mail me directly at armenaut-at-gmail-dot-com. Females are VERY STRONGLY encouraged to apply. Remember, the more people who sign up, the more money for HH.
Addendum: A lot of people say, "I just can't think of anything to write about." Neither did I when I first started this whole journey. I mean take this gem from August 2004.

Health insurance? Some of us don't know the scoop. Why is this cause worthy?
What, the chance to have your very own soap box isn't enough of a good cause? :)
All kidding aside, if you're curious, I recommend asking any 3L in person why this is such a worthy cause (and it is). I think HH would appreciate if her personal medical issues weren't fodder for the sniping that usually goes on with this blog.
Good luck with the generous and creative fundraising, Armen!
Thank you 6:34. I'm more than happy to explain to those who contact me. Still waiting...
What if I just want to give you $10, hoping that you will match it, but don't want the grief associated with posting on N&B (I'm a sensitive soul)?
Armen,
What I would like to see is a blog summary of th meeting with Dean Edley today. Since this is the closest thing that Boalt has to a newspaper. (Boalt did have a paper back in the day)
Well I mean I'm not the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. I can't match every freakin' donation. So you have to make some sacrifice. If it means staying up until 5 am worrying why anonymous commenters don't like you, so be it. (Kidding).
As for the meeting with DE, it was basically Q & A where people's pet issues were addressed. You know Helen Lovejoy from the Simpsons when she keeps saying, "Won't somebody please think of the children?" Well replace children with new building, office space, rising fees, increased social justice clinics/programs/coordination/listservs/money, and faculty hiring. Anyway, he's going to have a townhall soon, and I'm sure one of us will liveblog that.
John Cooke, Solicitor General under Fairfax and Cromwell, penned this wisdom:
"Why should he who thinks he writes truth be ashamed to own to it?"
Armen, I applaud your generosity. It's a good soul that comes up with an idea like this. And I have a suggestion: if the Blogathon concept doesn't take, I think you should auction off dates with the current N&B authors. I would even bid on Earl Warren, because a good fight now and then can be a real turn-on.
As an ELQ member, I was hoping for a link to the mean ELQ BBQ comment. We are so much nicer now!
ELQ BBBQ Seriously, that's the level of creativity required to post here.
has anyone set up a paypal? i would like to give some money... heard about this but not sure where to send it...
Hmm, I don't think anyone has, but you can paypal me at the above address, and I'll cut a check. Just be sure to shoot me an e-mail also so I can keep track.
I'm sorry, my intellectual vigor is not for sale. My phyiscal vigor, on the other hand...
(PS -- Armen, will you match my contribution if I promise to contirbute more for a month?)
Umm no. But if any Boalties are willing to donate for an evening of your intellectual and/or physical vigor, I'll pay for the bottle of wine.
Alright, we have at least one taker. Any 1 and 2Ls? Come on, I know the 2Ls at least love to yap during class. Now you can write your thoughts during class.
Tom, you make a good point about anonymity. But there's a counterpoint, well articulated by John Paul Stevens in 1995 in McIntyre v. Ohio Elections Commission:
"Under our Constitution, anonymous pamphleteering is not pernicious, fraudulent practice, but an honorable tradition of advocacy and of dissent; anonymity is a shield from the tyranny of the majority."
