* Breaking News *

BearFacts is working, with some grades posted. Hat tip: kindly Sec Reg professor who emailed the notice.

A few clicks, and everyone can go back to stressing about normal aspects of life.

Some of mine are visible under "prior term grades." None are showing up yet under "all grades."

The sec reg prof did a pretty nice job considering it was her first time in a classroom. I'd also submit that, with her email, it shows she's more attuned to and solicitious of students than most of the profs. A nice corrective to some of the *other* stories we've heard about on this blog.

It would be nice if the professors whose grades aren't posted yet would email their classes when they do post the grades on eGrades. That way we'd know when to check again. Also, it'd be ideal if professors emailed students directly to inform them if they earned an award.

Here's an idea: the prof isn't emailing you about your award because you're the kind of annoying, entitled gunner to whom they don't care to show any extra courtesy. Don't worry: the students they like get personal notes.

Um, mine's meant for 1:10. It's just laughable to see people have such entitlement issues with something that the vast majority of us have absolutely no umm experience with.

I'm guessing that person probably doesn't even have an award - he/she's just engaging in wishful thinking.

All my courses are showing up in BearFacts, but the grades column is empty.

I mean, I didn't think I did spectacularly...but I thought I at least earned a P.

What's wrong with wanting to know if you've gotten an award? Finding an HH on your transcript will leave you wondering, and who wants to pay a $1 for an unecessary paper transcript? (Let me guess, now you're all going say stop whining over a dollar...)

The point is, some people care about this stuff. In fact, I'd venture to say the majority of Boalties care about this stuff -- they've obviously cared about it all their lives (based on admission criteria), why would they stop once coming to law school? The critics likely are those students who wouldn't be affected by a policy of emailing the AmJur and Prosser of a particular class.

8:59 - same here. can those of you who have grades at least post the names of the courses for which grades have been posted so that those of us who don't have ANY grades yet can go ahead and prepare for our sub-P letters?

9:04, maybe this is a distinction without a difference, but I distinguish a) a legitimate desire to know one's grades (for employment, altering study habits, easing 1L fears, mollifying family members, and generally knowing how well you did) from b) an immediate need for the professor to write you a personal note about the AmJur you (mostly likely didn't) receive. The former reflects a legitimate, if somewhat unfortunate and unhealthy, desire that consumers most Boalties. The latter relfects your own arrogance, neuroses, and grandiose sense of your own immediate needs (the professor should email ME specifically--and IMMEDIATELY). Emailing the class about their grades benefits...most of the class. Emailing you about your award benefits...you.

And you're mistaken about having to pay $1. If the professor doesn't send a note about your award--which he or she probably won't do because they don't like you--the registrar will send an official letter in the next month. So take it from me--who has some experience with all this, contrary to your defensive assertion about the "critics"--and chill the fuck out.

I'm with you for the most part, 10:15, but the award letters are hardly sent out within a month. I got the letter for an award received in Spring semester of my 1L year during OCIP of my 2L year - approximately 4 months after taking the final exam.

10:15: The emailing of an AmJur notification benefits the entire class because from day one, everyone is in the running for an award. Just as most of the class is interested in receiving their grades, most of the people who received HHs are interested in knowing about the AmJur/Prosser awards.

As someone who's never received an award, I wasn't aware of the policy of mailing out notifications of the award. In fact, I recall numerous posts on this blog complaining about a lack of notification until months after the award was received.

Also, there's no need for hostility toward those whose values and priorities differ from yours. It's just a blog. Breathe.

Seriously. How can I have enough time to prepare my lecture for Amjur Day if I don't find out if I got an Amjur or a Prosser until 8 weeks before?

According to the registrar's office, all grades entered by profs last Friday and last weekend will appear tonight - presumably around midnight.

I thought this thread was going to contain today's breaking news about Simpson Thatcher's 1st year salary raise to $160k.

How is this going to trickle down to the west coast firms?

I'm an alum, so things may have changed, but it used to be possible to see AmJur awards on your Bearfacts transcript about a week after grades were posted (and usually well before receiving the registrar's letter).

John Steele has submitted Law 210 grades to Bear Facts, so the grades should be percolating their way to the students soon. Sorry for the delay.
