Some Time to Kill

While grades are set to come out any month now, what website (other than Bearfacts) do you visit during classes? I'm counting more and more people using gmail (and I certainly hope people have gotten around to forwarding their calmail to gmail). Here are two that I'm partial to.

On an unrelated note, I just have to say that I heart Arnold. Health care for all? Cutting statewide greenhouse gas emissions by 10%? Wow. And all while on crutches.

I also loved hearing him, in his speech, promise to act in coalition with the legislators: "Senator Nunez, I will verk with you."

10:22,
You need to read the fine print of Schwarzenegger's plan. Just because he calls it "universal healthcare" doesn't mean it is a good plan! I think there is a lunch event today about the issue which may shed some light on the matter.

On another unrelated note, what the heck is up with Boalt not printing enough copies of the BBB this year? It seems to be getting worse because they were already out by the end of the day on Monday this week!

Neatorama, updated more than once a day, is the coolest time waster ever. It's just a collection of funny, odd, interesting stuff.

from bearfacts help team:

"We are aware of the problem and are analyzing it. We have also notified Boalt of the problem. I cannot provide any ETA for a fix, however. I apologize for the inconvenience."

I just thought it was the traditional changing of the semesters, i.e., fall 06 is now officially "prior term."

Armen - The problem is that "prior term" doesn't seem to list grades that were posted last week in the "current term" section. So, in the traditional chasnging of the semesters, posted grades vanished.

I've heard -- don't remember where or when -- that professors are supposed to turn in grades by the 12th. Anyone know if that's true?

Yes, that's true. Tomorrow is the deadline for professors to turn in raw scores to the registrar. There's one more step after that, though. After the Registrar approves the teacher's grades, the Registar gives the teacher the "digital key" to post the grades electronically. That's what I've been able to piece together.

Some teachers, as many know, submitted grades already.

I heard differently. I heard the raw scores were due last Friday, and then the profs have until tomorrow to confirm back to the registrar with a paper copy of the final grades. It's all very mysterious and impenetrable.

Incidentally, there's a great Freudian slip in the new BBB: "You should be able to see your Fall 2005 grades on BEARFACTS as faculty submit them." Isn't that the God's honest truth?

On the topic of slips in the BBB, my favorite sentence this week comes from the Berkeley Journal of Gender, Law & Justice:

"We welcome both new members to come, have some lunch, and learn about the journal."

I hope that both of them had a good time at the meeting.

4:23 PM - What you heard is half-true. The word on the street is that the faculty were initially told that raw scores were due on the 5th of January. That was either a mistake OR the faculty got the due date changed. The new due date for raw scores became January 12, as listed on our exam memo.

The lady working in the registrar's office told me today that grades are due to them by tomorrow.
