Liveblogging the Oscars

Circa 6:45 PM -- Cameron Diaz IS hot. Anyone who disagrees is blind. You know who you are.

The End.

Ellen is funny - but I'm a big fan. I don't know if other people who aren't big fans think she is funny? The Al Gore bit was cute.

I love Ellen. She's hilarious, much better than Jon Stewart was last year. I also like how all the movie stars just love Al Gore.

And Armen, I disagree with you about Cameron. Her dress is awesome, but she does not look good. she looks like she just got broken up with by the very hot JT.

"I was just backstage drinking with Jack Nicholson and Vice President Gore." Man, I wish I could say that.

People who have thanked Al Gore: Leo, Melissa Ethridge, George Clooney, the Inconvienent Truth guys, etc etc etc. He is by far the most popular person at the Oscars! I can't imagine how he could be portrayed any better - if he doesn't run now he's crazy!

While Cameron is naturally quite beautiful and has rarely disappointed on the red carpet, tonight was not her night. Her tan was more orange than my University of Tennessee garb, her dress was awful and she just looked old, tired and not together. I'll give her a few months to get over JT, dye her hair back blonde and regain some confidence though. No doubt, Cameron will shine again.

Actually, I understand Cameron has horrible, ugly skin and need 5 lbs of make-up and a non-HD-TV to walk outside her house.

>I can't imagine how he could be portrayed any better - if he doesn't run now he's crazy!

Exactly! Because the heartland LOVES being told who to vote for by Hollywood! It's a shock Jane Fonda isn't Speaker of the House right now.

I have never laughed at anything Ellen has said, ever -- and this is through at least 35 (inadvertent) uninterrupted minutes of watching her in my life. How could anyone possible think she's funny? Go read Christopher Hitchens.

I loved The Departed the first time. When it was called Goodfellas.

I loved the Queen the first time. When it was--wait, I actually don't give a fuck about an over-the-hill British actress playing an over-the-hill British monarch.

I thank God Leo DiCaprio didn't win anything. I have a hard time believing him in any role in which he plays a character over 14 years of age. Wait, he didn't win anything did he? Because he was nominated for movies he wasn't even in.

Finally, can we please have Stephen Colbert come in for next year? Because a razor-sharp satire of this fatuous exercise in self-congratulation would possibly be the funniest thing ever.

Happy Monday!

Whoa there 10:11, Departed and Goodfellas are nothing alike. Not even close. Both awesome, but nothing alike.

My thoughts:
--I love "The Departed," and it totally deserved to win.

--Ellen is hilarious. Some people need a gd sense of humor.

--Jon Stewart was also hilarious. Only the hollywood people weren't laughing because he made fun of them the entire night, which was awesome.

--I agree that Colbert should host.

--Cameron Diaz is one of those people who has the potential to be attractive, but her hair and skin always look disgusting. I personally think her cheekbones are way out of hand, but some people may find them attractive.

Diaz is a complete freak, with skin like patent leather and hair like roadkill. Hasn't looked good since "The Mask." For more unsolicited opinions, see my liveblog of the whole ceremony at my page.

How do people know about Cameron Diaz's skin? Is this something you can see if you have HDTV?

My thoughts:

LOVED the Al Gore joke! Ellen was actually more amusing than I expected. She got a couple of laugh out loud moments out of me.

The dresses were mostly hideous, but big ups to Rachel Weiss, Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchet for breaking that trend.

I wasn't really sure if Beyonce teared up because she was so happy for Jennifer Hudson's Oscar or so sad that her own piss-poor acting skills (which haven't improved even after her half a dozen or so movie stints of playing the SAME EXACT character)weren't enough to earn one. Anyone care to chime in?

Overall, one of the better cermonies I've seen. I actually stayed up to watch the whole thing on east coast time.

Beyonce probably knew the cameras would be on her, so she knew she needed to tear up. I agree she should stick to singing.

I actually didn't think Nicole Kidman's dress was very good--I am not a big fan of the "hey, let's stick a giant bow on the shoulder!" trend that seems to be going around these days. every time there is an award show, i turn on the tv, and another otherwise-attractive woman/celebrity has some giant thing coming off her dress.

10:11 - it goes, "I liked the Departed better the first time - when it was called Infernal Affairs." The only thing Scorsese's version had on the original was all of Mark Wahlberg's swearing and put-downs.

As for Beyonce, I think she did a pretty good job in Dreamgirls. A very different role for her than anything else she's done.

One final Dreamgirls thought - great movie, but isn't America tired of all that damn American Idol-style oversinging of everything?

Kidman's dress was meh. What was more interesting is how completely plastic her face looks. I just watched Dead Calm the other day (from before she was Mrs. Tom Cruise) and she is a completely different person. And her hair looks like straw.

I liked Penelope Cruz's dress better two years ago when it was blue and worn by Charlize Theron.

I am constantly surprised with how terribly Beyonce dresses. She must fire her mother and get stylist. For reals. That weird girl scout sash enamel stone things across her chest was hideous.

But that's just me,

Totally feel ya, 8:57, on the Charlize Theron dress comment. I KNEW i recognized Penelope's dress from somewhere.
Also, yes, Kidman doesn't even look human anymore. It's like she never left the set of The Stepford Wives (which I didn't see).
