Ontario, Eh?
Some commenters noted that all we do on this blog is complain. In an effort to piss them off, I'm going to complain. I have nothing to complain about. This is all my fault. I waited this long to register for the bar exam. As a result, my choices for a laptop exam were Ontario, San Diego, San Mateo, or Sac. So if anyone hasn't yet booked his/her test, do so quickly. You don't want to end up in Sac. I'd even be willing to take it in Fresno over Sac. What a horrible city, and an even worse basketball team!!!
The silver lining is that it looks like the application program has some sort of an internal count that removes test centers that are fully booked, which leads me to believe that those of you who got SF or Century City will probably get your first choice.

don't beat yourself up--at least you didn't pull a DH, whose story will remain legendary at Boalt Hall for many years to come!
what did DH do?
Wrong question, 5:15. What did DH NOT do?
Stop teasing and tell the story of DH for those who do not know, namely me!
First, instinctively I tease (ladies, stop blushing). Second, this isn't teasing. I signed up for the July bar in Ontario. DH is waiting for the results of the Feb bar. Do you want me to connect the dots even more? Let's just say he was on the back of my mind when I wrote this post to remind people to sign up for the bar.
This blows. DS just signed up for San Mateo, but he thought about not signing up at all and letting the "if, when you sign up, all testing stations are full, the closest testing station will be assigned to you" put him automatically in the Fort Mason site which is a short walk from his crib.
Didn't want to get caught though.
Will firms pay the $650 to take the bar?
It's not so bad Armen, the hotels are next to the convention center so you won't have to worry about parking or traffic. There are some videos on youtube of the convention center made by a woman taking the bar last year.
The bar gets you a special rate (see the bar website), although you might be able to get a better rate w/ other discounts or priceline. You should book a room soon, I hear the close ones (the Marriott and the Doubletree) fill up early. This is true for other locations too.
see you there!
Alison, thanks for the hotel heads up. I made some calls today. Most of them were already sold out. But I did get Ayers something or another. I got their regular rate, but it's not that much more than the bar rate. The Marriott was $200 a night vs. the $99 bar rate. Bastards!!!
Armen,
The good news about Ontario is that there are lots of cheap hotels near the convention center. I chose to take the bar exam there and am glad that I did. It struck me as a much easier and simpler location than anywhere else.
Plus, as a bonus, the bar exam site is within walking distance of an In-n-Out hamburger, so you can fuel up at lunchtime.
