ExamHard

As a lowly 1L, I wrote on De Novo about ExamSoft:

I wanted to draw a kickass bitmap discussing the benefits of adverse possession and insert it into the exam, but no such luck. After writing the 12th chapter on the injustices of current landlord-tenant laws, I wanted to insert a table of contents to aid the professor, but of course, you can do no such thing on ExamSoft (being the clever shrew that I am, I hand wrote one on a bluebook and turned it in separately. The said blue book also contained graphs hand-copied from MS Excel and the PowerPoint slides I would have liked to have created on "The Intersection of Non-Euclidean Geometry and Euclidian Zoning.")
The tongue-in-cheek stuff aside, the current crop of Boalties have no clue what ExamSoft is. At the time of my bitching, Phil Carter commented:

Armen,

Sorry to break the news to you...

The California bar exam, and many other bar exams, use Examsoft too. As we used to say in the Army, "embrace the suck", because you're going to have it for a while.

I had ALMOST forgotten how much I hate this thing. Anyway, apparently if you have gmail they are having issues with the confirmation e-mails. Log in at www.examsoft.com/calbar and you can check to see if the files were received. I changed my status back to my @berkeley account (which forwards to gmail).

Of course I replied to Phil that I prefer "SNAFU" much more. I stand by my assertion.

I had no trouble uploading my handwritten exams.

And the Oakland Boalt gang is pretty cool.

Well now that Real Property Essay #1, Torts Essay #2, Evidence Essay # 3, and PR? performance test are out of the way what do we see coming down the pipe on Thursday?

I see Civil Procedure and Community Property.

Anybody else pissed that they ran evidence by us WITHOUT California rules? Fuck them for making me learn the cal rules and fuck them again for not testing me on them!!

9:49--are you one of those highly annoying people who talk about what issues you spotted and how straightforward and easy everything is while people are shutting down ExamSoft? I don't like you.

And Armen, I do like you. Thanks for the ExamSoft info.

Jenna,

9:49 here. I'm worse. I actually make up issues that sound applicable and talk about how I spotted them. I thrive by crushing the confidence of those around me (Sarcasm)

Huh. I thought #1 was a contracts problem. Oops. Oh well, still no problems uploading it.

Tom,

Yah just like the second question was a civil procedure question.

Don't get sassy with me Fletcher

I'd just like to point out that there's a lot of ex-1L Boalties who would really like a thread about CLR right about now.

what's going on with CLR?

why fools be bothering folks who are in the middle of the bar (not me) to be talking about CLR. what is the big deal about CLR. and shouldn't that guy call himself a rising 2L rather than an ex-1L. it makes it sound like he couldn't make the (non)grade.

Ex-1L's are the best kind of 1L's...

Re: 10:00Am. Check out the permanent thread on Journals, there's not much there, but that would be a place to post until after the bar. Regarding CLR, calls have been going out starting Monday, I don't know whether there are more calls pending or not.

FYI New York State uses a different software vendor called "SecureSoftware." Believe it or not, I think it may actually be WORSE than ExamSoft. For instance, about half of us have been unable to upload our files from yesterday. Another interesting illustration--in not one but two separate instances, the support person who was supposed to tell us the password to use to log into our exams at the very last minute FORGOT THE PASSWORD. In one of those instances, he proceeded to figure out the correct password, then write it on the dry-erase board, with A MISS-SPELLING! We are less than thrilled. On the plus side, we are done. That is all.

10:00 here. I use "ex-1L" because "rising 2L/3L" makes you sound like a pretentious dweeb(IMHO).

They've already sent out the mass "sorry" email, so I think everyone knows by now.

Everyone should check out a column in Salon.com today about John Yoo. It devastatingly attacks his intellectual integrity, comparing what he said about executive privilege and impeachment for ignoring congressional subpoenas in the Clinton years to what he wrote yesterday in the Wall Street Journal.
See:
http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/07/24/yoo/index.html

I know some people like him as a professor, but, torture aside, what a hack.

Hey Armen,

I hope CA bar hasn't been too painful.

If you look at the De Novo entry again, you'll see that a commenter claiming to be an Examsoft Tech says that they're rolling out a revamped version that will address most of your complaints. Too late for you, but just in time for Feb. takers like me :-)

2:20 RE: CLR - I wrote on and I have not gotten a call or the "mass sorry email"

Anyone else not hear anything?

I'd like to thank ExamSoft and their wonderful program for the glitch that made myself and many of my friends and others have to handwrite entire portions of the bar today. Examsoft can die.

See, this is where a CLR thread would have been useful. Isn't this the kind of 1L perspective that McWho was supposed to bring to Nuts and Boalts?

Also wrote on. No call or mass e-mail. I thought it was a mass letter anyway. I can't remember why I was expecting a letter. I'd rather it be an e-mail so as to no longer have to wait for bad news.

When I got the call Monday, she said I would be getting a packet in the mail next week. If they're doing all their mailing at the same time, I would guess letters will go out next week too.
