I Can't Take it Anymore

I should be grabbing food, but I'm not hungry. Some interesting and fascinating work this week helped keep my mind off things, but now that's gone. You know what I'm talking about. And I can't take it.

I'm going mad with all the thoughts going through my head. The thought of having one foot already out the door at my firm. The thought of "failure" branded on every professional paper I possess. The thought of breathing in the stench of failure in February. The thought of auditing Whittier's class on the Performance Test. The thought of having a very noticeable last name that begins with "A" missing from the list. The thought coming to work on Monday...

It's so frustrating I thought I'd create this post to piss off others in my situation. I hope it works.

P.S. The title refers to the Simpsons episode, "Lisa's Rival" which in turn refers to Edgar Allen Poe's classic, "The Tell-Tale Heart."

"But bar-failures are my mortal enemy!"

"Armen, bar-failures are nothing to fear. Some bar-failures of note include Hillary Clinton, Pete Wilson, Jerry Brown, Mayor Richard Daley, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, random Quinn attorney Kathleen Sullivan, and mid-to-late 1999 political icon JFK Jr.

"Oh no, not JFK Jr.! No!!!"

Well done Earl. Well done indeed. Nothing makes at ease more than a well-placed popcorn magnate Orville Reddenbacher, rock star David Byrne, and Supreme Court Justice David Souter reference. Unfortunately that always reminds me of Lionel Hutz, aka Miguel Sanchez.

"I've argued in front of every judge in this state -- often as a lawyer."

"Oops, I shouldn't have the Bar Association logo here either."

Oh and I this. I actually first read that for a psych course on human memory. Great class.

Too soon Armen, too soon!

Honestly, you know what would be an awesome, self-less, humanitarian, Nobel-deserving gesture for some 1L to do over Winter break? Make a YouTube "mix video" of the 15-20 greatest Lionel Hutz scenes. On behalf of a grateful law school, we'd all be...grateful.

Seriously, to the three--maybe four--recent graduates who still read this blog: Good luck. I just want you to know, we're all counting on you.

Perhaps Armen should be careful not to equate Bar failure with personal and professional failure, as there are already Boalties who have failed the NY Bar and are certain to be some who fail the CA. I suspect Armen would not have made this post if he was actually worried about failing the Bar. In light of that fact, making the post seems like a douchey move. And I don't use that word often, but it is, unfortunately, applicable in this situation.

I heard from a maybe reliable source that stats are out (tho clearly not on the bar website) and 51% passed. Can anyone confirm?
Much luck.

what was the ny pass percentage for boalt? You say there are boalties, plural, that didn't pass? My sympathies, it must have been an unusually tough year.

Well I actually use the term douche quite frequently, but I can't use it for 6:52 because s/he is beyond douche. I don't give a flying f*ck about your or other people's sensitivities. I'm freaking out.

6:52...that was hyper-sensitive. Obviously Armen and every other grad cares about passing the bar. No one can take that test without worrying a little. Just think about everyone that took the LSAT. We all freaked out.

For all July bar takers or for first time takers from ABA approved schools? As a I recall, the pass rate for all July bar takers last year was around 46%.

Today's Daily Journal insert has not just the names of the passers but also nice photos of a couple dozen passers, including Boalties Bone Burke; Christina Hioureas; Sarah Scollard; Mairead Armitage; Bryant Yang; and Marwa Hassoun. Congrats to everyone.
