Arcane Bluebook Question
Pardon the interruption, but I have a challenge for the Bluebook mavens out there. Which of the following is correct:
1. N.D.W.Va.
2. N.D.W. Va.
3. N.D. W.Va.
4. N.D. W. Va.
My co-workers seem to think it's 4. They're probably right. But it looks ugly on the page. Can someone find a reason that 1 is better, or an example of it?
Oh, and can you do that in the next 2 hours? We have to publish this sucker.

It's no. 1. I'll have a rule cite in a second, but there's no space between any of those.
Oooops. I'm going to sua sponte reverse myself. The rule is 6.1 of the new BB. The example appears on page 31. It's no. 4.
4 is definitely correct. The two parts of the district (Northern District, N.D.) and West Virginia (W. Va.) need to be separated by a space. The space between W. and Va. is proper for a geographic abbreviation. And districts are never abbreviated with spaces. (So, N.D., C.D., S.D., etc.)
It's weird and ugly, but proper.
Duly noted & inserted.
On another note.. is it just my laptop, or is airbears getting WORSE lately in terms of near-constant "dropped signals" etc. Awfully annoying.
Agreed, 12:17, the AirBears connection at Boalt has been bad all semester, but especially in the past month. Maybe the network has more computers on it now than before, but either way it's a pain in the ass, especially given that the connection is worst in the library.
Everytime I tried to log onto airbears a giant stop sign appeared. This happened for half an hour.
Yeah, whats up with the big red stop sign?
Restarting your computer resolves the stop sign problem.
It seems like the big red stop sign is an attempt to prevent students from accessing the internet during exams. If that is the case, is it something Boalt has implemented before? Or is it another of those things that they just decide to do without notifying students? Either way, if the goal is to prevent one from logging on during exams, its implementation is woefully inadequate - I've personally been getting the big red stop sign all the time.
Restarting MY computer didn't resolve the problem, but repeatedly clicking on websites until one finally worked did solve the problem.
I even got the verneir networks error page once I got home. The stop sign didn't follow me, but anytime I hit the home button it would give me an error message.
12:41, try deleting your cookies which you can probably do the "preferences" menu, depending on your browser. That worked me and my homepage.
