A Cynic's Summary of Huckabee's RNC Address in 25 Words or Less
Mike Huckabee just gave his address at the RNC, and *surprise!* it was nearly identical to every other address at the RNC. It's almost like Karl Rove wrote out a speech at one sentence per flashcard, and each speaker just shuffles the cards around on the floor, picks them up, and reads them off in the order that they're in. Awesome. Here's what he said (very very slightly paraphrased):
"Hello Republicans! The media is elitist and liberal. I respect Obama, but he's ivy league educated and gets all his policy ideas from his recent European tour. McCain is a PoW. Democrats will tax you 140% of your salary. McCain was tortured because he was a PoW. Gay marriage, abortion, taxes, liberal, liberal, liberal. McCain being a PoW hero earned your child his or her school desk. Vote for me in 2012. Liberal."(Disclosure: That may or may not have been more than 25 words.) Now, I realize that America's executive leadership hasn't exactly set a pristine example, but it's almost embarrassing to see a complete lack of policy discussed. Even wrong policy is better than no policy; at least you know what you're getting yourself into. But this is a campaign resorting 100% to scaring people away from them damn liberal agitating God-haters with pre-determined catch lines and cardboard slogans. It's almost like you could replace the speakers with customized magic 8-balls. Or better yet, a customized magic 8-ball iPhone application... wait; I think I just found my calling. Politics here I come!

Where's the SP speech liveblogging? Come on, that would be gold.
Huckabee? Meh.
But Joe Lieberman forever lost my respect after what he pulled. I actually feel sort of meh on the whole election (does that make me a bad person?) but I would derive a lot of satisfaction from watching his career be eviscerated by a democrat victory.
At least Palin atriculated their plan to drill in Alaska and to build nuclear plants. (I see they're writing off Nevada, which loves all that nuclear waste.)
Lieberman shared his personal opinion. He has a lot of courage to do so. Now he's staring down a censure, and he'll lose his committee if the Dems pick up seats. His bravery's impressed me.
Palin's funny. She's as tough as Hillary, but less intimidating.
This election will be a lot closer than I feel most Boalties think it will be. Obama needs to keep moving to the center, face reality on Iraq, and do some Clinton-style triangulating by stealing some issues (nuclear power or charter schools or something).
Lieberman irritated me. Then again, I was in a laundromat when I saw him speak, so chances are I was irritated anyway.
It's one thing to share a personal opinion. It's something else to go out of the way to drop the bomb at the other party's convention.
8:29 - Palin and Clinton have nothing in common. It's just sad when she talked about ONE policy issue (energy), and spent the rest of the time (and Guiliani, and everyone else) mocking Obama.
It's a sad sad state of affairs when one side spends the whole time making fun of the other side and the election is close anyway. I think the mockery will backfire... people are concerned about their jobs, and their retirement, and not who can get in the better zinger.
I actually think Michael Bay wrote the republican convention... and did effects for the democrats. More America! More explosions! More santa!!!
Did you hear Romney? "Not a day goes by that I don't feel proud to be an American!" Take that, Obama and your casual pride Fridays.
As I recall, one party spent most of the 2004 campaign mocking the incumbent president.
Look who won.
There's an absolute difference between mocking superficially (what speakers did tonight), and pointing out differences at a substance/policy level (what Dems did in '04, which comes off as mocking - "how could XXXX take this stance?", etc) I'd rather a campaign lose because Americans don't agree with it's policy, than because the other side had better one-liners.
Bush did win, but his party suffered a complete and utter loss in the Congressional elections of '06. I just hope that Americans are smart enough to not just base their decision on who is the best disser.
Score: Toney +2 for using the term "disser".
I watched about 5 minutes of the RNC, just enough time to hear the crowd chanting "Drill Baby Drill". The Texas delegation with their cowboy hats on looked like they had died and gone to heaven.
Drill baby drill??? Makes me sick.
I watched 20 minutes of this spectacle tonight, and I didn't see any non-white people. And the sadder thing than that is that I wasn't surprised...
I live in Arkansas and Huckabee got Arkansas so jacked up and it’s known for KLAN country, I can imagine how he would leave the United States! So nothing he says could convince me! It's obvious that he would attack Obama Speech!
You elitest liberals and your love of the "issues." If you loved America as much as you loved issues you'd realize real, non-Liberal Americans hate issues and love freedom. That's why they elected GWB twice.
For the record, the Dems didn't lose in '04 because of policy or one-liners. They lost because Kerry stunk up the joint.
Clinton stunk up the joint, too, yet he won. Is the difference that he didn't inhale?
dude, why are you such a liberal elitist?
