So are people asking professors to call? Is it too late for this anyway?
Interview advice anyone?
And is it a bad sign if judges are doing in interviews before they're supposed to under the plan? Is that a red flag somehow?
I'm pretty sure any interview is a good interview... Good luck!
no, like advice for actually conducting the interview...
anyone getting "feeler" calls? I'm sure not...
Yes, I've heard of a few "feeler" calls coming to Boalties and even some judges scheduling interviews early. I wonder why some didn't accept applications until the 3rd but then violated the hiring plan in scheduling interviews...
1:29 -- it's not so confusing. you'd have to be pretty public about asking for apps early to get all the candidates you want to apply early. But if you want to open applications on the appointed date and then conduct interviews before everyone else, that wouldn't be so hard at all.
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KEEP FINGERS CROSSED FOR ALL BOALTIES APPLYING THIS YEAR.
Anybody else ridic nervous?
yes.
So are we just about done here then?
several people have told me that many judges -- particularly district court -- may not call today. if you haven't received any phone calls, don't lose hope quite yet.
so how are boalties doing? have people heard from the 9th circuit? district courts? so far, I got nothing.
Haven't heard from any California district judges...
Nothing here either. Damn.
One piece of advice for going into an interview: have an idea of what the court you are interviewing for does. If you're interviewing for a court of appeals judge, try to find a prior extern or clerk to get a feel for what the work entails (and what it doesn't). Ditto for district courts.
One question that I think can spark a conversation is to ask a judge about their favorite type of case. Are they most excited about criminal law? Administrative law? Civil rights law? You can learn a lot from this question. it also keeps them focused on their favorite things, smiling, etc. ... all good things for making a solid impression.
- Current clerk.
thanks 5:12! much appreciated!
hope people had a good day :)
Pregerson, Thomas, Nelson and Wardlaw called from the 9th Circuit (Boalt 3L)
Another good question for district court interviews: how many trials did you hold last year? What kinds of trials? For people interested in trial work, this can make a big difference. Answers can vary wildly; in one district I interviewed in, one judge averaged 1 trial per year, another 10. This reflects their different preferences for settling cases, granting summary judgment, forcing parties to adhere to trial dates, etc. But given the potential for order of magnitude differences, I think it's worth asking.
has anyone heard from c.d.cal or n.d. cal?
I don't think I've ever been this overwhelmed or stressed about a series of interviews. This so-called plan is a shit show.
11:03, please take your stress about your "series of interviews" somewhere else.
Congrats to all the Boalties with interviews! Best of luck!
Maybe I am being unrealistic, but I am still holding on to some hope for a phone call. Are there any Boalties applying to the Federal Circuit? If so, any luck?
well, biber did say not to give up hope until thursday..
I know people who got interviews as of today. Also, re:11:03, I think it's perfectly fine to express stress over interviews on this blog -- this is a forum for Boalt students who are going through the clerkship process - for those who got interviews and those who did not. I think everyone deserves the support of this forum! Best of luck to everyone who has not yet gotten interviews, I think there is still hope. To those who have interviews scheduled -- best of luck to you, too. Be nice people!
