CA Bar Stats Released

Some bar stats are out. 89%.As a little baby 2L, I always feel uncomfortable about posting bar stuff. It seems about as wanker a move as the junior varsity benchwarmer who comments on the varsity players' stats. The results deserve their own thread, though, so here it is.

Quick reaction: Cal-ABA average 1st time = 83% (increase of 7% over 2007). Boalt's average increases by....7%.
Beat USF!
I'd like to see the proportion of any given school's class that takes the bar, and see the comparison among school passive rates there (I assume that people that don't take the bar are less likely to pass the bar if they did).
There's a few other permutations that I'd like to chew on as well. Anyway, go us!
Toney, that's a red herring for all practical purposes. First, you can't in any meaningful way separate non-bar takers from non-California bar takers. Only each school could really keep track of this info, but that's not really accessible nor required. Second, forced attrition at "other schools" is the grander illusion that masks these final percentages. You can pretty much automatically deduct 10% from the bar passage rates of Pepperdine, Loyola, Southwestern (and probably some of the Bay Area schools, though I'm less familiar) if you allowed all their matriculated students to sit for the bar.
Actually, the State Bar has those records.
Good luck getting the Bar to release anything controversial, though.
We beat Hastings! F*** yeah!
U of VA: 37 for 37. Wow!
This year the overall pass rate for CA ABA approved schools was 83%. Last year it was 76%. So, we got an easy test. Our bump in numbers is not really anything to celebrate (except that we beat USF (but not USC or UCLA)).
Totally unrelated, but I just upgraded my MacBook's RAM. That means I have 2 gigs (i.e., two one-gig cards) I no longer need. I'm happy to give them to any Boaltie or loyal N&B reader who wants them. If you are currently running less than 2 gigs, they will almost certainly make your computer run faster.
Email me (pbageant at gmail.com). First-come, first-served.
First-come has been first-served.
poor showing compared to SLS; cmon guys
A quick summary (correct me if I'm wrong):
We were beat by Stanford (badly) as well as USC and UCLA.
We tied Pepperdine and only narrowly edged California Western, Loyola and USF.
Of the class of 2008, 24 people failed the CA bar.
Possibly more interesting is that 221 of the graduating class (of 270, right?) took the CA bar.
T.J., is there a particular reason why that number is interesting? Strikes me as the same ballpark as recent years. Just not sure what you're getting at.
It may be similar to recent years, but I guess it was interesting to me because I was ignorant of exactly what percent of Boalties remain in CA. Not sure if others would find it interesting as well...
Don't forget clerks. Some don't take the bar before starting their clerkship. Can't imagine that's a large number though.
random tangent here, but could someone please put those Boalt blogger brains to work on the Bart shooting and subsequent events? The community around you is seriously hurtin' -- how 'bout some blog discussion about the execution style killing? Not to minimize the bar passage rate--it's a big deal and that's great. Just, ya know, in addition to that there's like BIG NEWS outside your window--care to comment?
-recent alumn.
How many people who failed felt like they really gave it their all? I'm an '08 grad who passed, but know that some of the people who failed did not take studying all that seriously.
I agree - let's have a thread on the BART shooting.
Yeah, because there aren't enough blogs out there discussing the BART shooting.
Highest since 2003 (which was 91%).
normalize boalt's results against the overall score before claiming it's up or down.
It's expected that we get creamed by Stanford. They are smarter, if LSAT and GPA are anything to go by, and they get what they pay for, in terms of just about everything, including better bar exam prep. But Boalt getting beat by UCLA and ... cough .. USC? That's pathetic.
Congrats, Boalt, on squeaking past USF this year! But with our 87%, we are looking forward to facing off again in 2009. I'll have a bit more skin in the game at that point.
What a bunch of snots you all are!
