No Pac-10 Love from the Commander-in-Chief
ESPN's got a piece (here) on the "First Bracket" -- Obama's Tourney picks.
Not only does Mr. President take Maryland over our very own Golden Bears (probably because of the Terp's vicinity to D.C.), he doesn't have much Pac-10 love at all. The only Pac-10 team he's got moving on is 4-seed Washington. But then he's got Purdue knocking them off in the second round.
He explains this decision because he wants to encourage the Oregon State Beavers next season (Obama's brother-in-law is the Beavers' coach). I guess if the Pac-10 gets thrashed in the tournament, that makes the Beavers feel like they have a chance next season. But if the Pac-10 gets thrashed, doesn't that make it harder for any Pac-10 team, including O State, to get into the Dance next year?
So, Obama is the new Decider. For the sake of my bracket's chances (and Pac-10 respect), I hope this is one decision he's wrong on.
Oh and the Presidential Pick? UNC over Louisville. I think I agree.

Updates:
- Coach K thinks "the economy is something that [President Obama] should focus on, probably more than the brackets." This is probably just a comment taken a little out of context given the fact that the President didn't pick Duke to take the tourney.
- Also, here's a link to check the Presidential Picks.

There is never any love for the pac-10, in any sport. It makes it all the sweeter when we beat down on Maryland, Utah, VCU (whoever that is), etc.
You know, McCain would have had at least two Pac 10 teams advancing past the second round. Doesn't take a genius to guess which two.
Care to retroactively change your vote?
Virginia Commonwealth is a pretty good team year after year, so you of all sports-freaks should know about them.
They're in a conference that sounds more like an insurance scam peddled by Alex Trebek and Ed McMahon. Go Bruins!!!!
VCU is gonna win. So is Utah. Maryland will lose, however, because the ACC sucks (with one or two obvious exceptions).
In related news, Coach K thinks Obama should "worry about the economy" and not brackets.

Like he's supposed to just sit around all day and night thinking "hmm....economy...hmmm." Coach K is such a tool.
registration times are out...how about a poll to see if they are still randomized.
I've noticed that I seem to randomly register late each semester.
Re: Maryland...
I lied.
No Dan, you didn't lie. Maryland will still lose, to Memphis though. And the ACC still sucks. But apparently not as bad as Cal. And now my bracket is doomed because I was way too optimistic.
I would also like to revoke my support of VCU, since my little brother just called to say he got into UCLA for undergrad.
Congratulations, Dan. If your brother goes to UCLA, he'll be entering the greatest athletic school ever.
0 for 3 Dan. You should be in our pool next year. We could use someone like you.
Yeah, those were some BAD predictions...
On the other hand, at least I didn't call UCLA "the greatest athletic school ever." Ouch.
It is the greatest athletic school ever. Which part of that sentence is not clear to you?
If only he would have filled out a womens' bracket too: http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/sports/20090324/c3chris24_st.art.htm.
Hello, Title IX????
Also, N&B: first time Cal Women have made it to the Sweet 16. No mention of that, eh?
