On MJ

Obviously you've all heard the news of the passing of Michael Jackson. I don't know how to feel exactly. First, I'm naturally saddened by the loss of any life, especially one as iconic and influential as his. But there's that other part of me. The one that remembers a more umm, erratic, Michael Jackson? I guess, I don't want to be seen as badmouthing the dead especially so close to the tragedy. But am I alone in having this hint of mixed emotions? I'm not even sure I can properly frame it.

And I assume there must be a debate of the Top 3 MJ songs. I'll think about my choices a bit, but roughly something like: Beat It, Billie Jean; I'll Be There (Jackson 5).

As lawyers, don't we believe in "innocent until proven guilty"?

yes, we believe that when it comes to sending someone to jail, they're innocent until proven guilty. But that doesn't mean that in the court of public opinion we can't conclude someone is guilty as sin. and by your logic, since MJ settled the molestation suits, does that mean he never did it?

Yeah the whole burden of proof thing make me think that he most likely did do it which is why he settled but "most likely" isn't enough for the criminal trial. But that whole uncertainty about that makes me agree with this post about having mixed feelings. I definitely don't have mixed feelings about 24 hour news networks talking about this non stop for the next week, I think they should be discussing cap and trade and health care. (sigh) but thats just me.

Innocent until proven guilty? Please! If MJ hadn't been who he is he would be rotting in jail. Instead, he is now rotting in hell where he belongs. Good riddance.

Top 3:
Thriller
Billie Jean
Smooth Criminal

Also, I guess this doesn't count because (1) it is Jackson 5 and (2) it is a cover, but Whose Lovin You is a pretty impressive young Michael performance...

1. Billie Jean. See this.

That's all I have to say about that.

I have a number of thoughts on this, few of them appropriate:

1. Obvious jokes about why MJ couldn't tell his hear to "beat it," and whether or not he'll come back as a zombie.

2. MJ was many things to many people, but to me he'll always be the heart and soul of the Free Willy 2 soundtrack.

3. Is it possible that Captain Eo lives on?

4. I bet Farrah Fawcett is pretty pissed at MJ for stealing her day.

5. Is it weird that I feel as if Powerline from Disney's "A Goofy Movie" has also died?

6. New theory on MJ's death: He saw Transformers 2 on opening night, then promptly did the right thing and killed himself.

I'm sorry. For everything.

1) Rock with you

2) Off the Wall

3) Going Back to Indiana

Regardless of what you thought of the man, as an artist he was a king and will be missed.

Where's our Billy Mays commemoration post? Is Toney asleep at the wheel on this one?
