Tip of the Hat

As a commenter int he thread below points out, Justice Ginsburg has hired a Boaltie for (presumably) OT 2011. So major congrats to GS. (And let's keep it at that level of specificity please).

I think the bloggers on this site fundamentally misunderstand the point of not specifically naming people. In this case, there is absolutely no reason why it would be inappropriate to use the full name of someone who had secured a very prestigious and very public position.

Just to put comments like 5:31 to rest (and I question the wisdom of jumping down my throat on a thread that's meant to be celebratory of a major accomplishment for one of our own), here's the reasoning.

1) This ISN'T public knowledge as of yet other than RBG hired a Boaltie.

2) Those within the Boalt community can quickly figure out who it is.

3) For those outside, I'm not eager to spill the beans.

4) Given number 2 above, and given the purpose of the post of acknowledging and lauding this accomplishment, there's no further benefit that may come from using additional identifiers.

5) On the other hand, as a courtesy, I don't want this blog to pop up on anyone's random Google searches and/or FBI background checks without his/her permission. It's just rude.

It's a wonder you managed to get above a 150 on the LSAT, Armen.

Hmm, I smell a doctorate from Harvard in quick wit retort.

That was a much nicer response from Armen than I expected.

Well let's face it, that was a "f*ck you clown" type of an insult. In about 30 seconds I can come up with better insults:

-- Armen your reasoning makes as much sense as Palin's decision to retire.

-- Armen, you're as petty as an Alito concurrence.

-- Armen, I've known Ayatollahs who censor less than you.

-- Armen, if that is your real name...

Ok, that's all I got in 30 seconds, but still. Effort people, effort.

Yay, bloaties!! Make it so that I won't have to feel overly delighted to see articles like this one to feel good about becoming an attorney: http://lawblog.legalmatch.com/2009/06/18/trusting-americas-lawyers/. There's a real dearth of good press for lawyers today...

Congrats to GS, and sorry to change the subject - but speaking of clerkships, anyone know when 4 semester rankings are supposed to be released for rising 3Ls?

Soon. Last year, Mindy sent us an e-mail offering it and then responded the same day. According to my Gmail archives, that was July 16th. Good luck!

The clerkship committee is meeting this summer and *might* be changing the ranking system. If not, expect rankings in the next week or two. If so, expect them in early to mid August.

To clarify so people don't freak out, your rank will not change. But the way it is reported (ie how many students are ranked numerically, and what cutoffs - 5%, 10%, 20%, etc.) are used, might.

Is there a way for just graduated 3Ls to find out their final ranking after 6 semesters?

To 11:41 -- if you want to know your chances for passing the bar, get off nuts and boalts, get some sleep, and wake up early and study. You are the reason people hate lawyers. And clearly you aren't smart enough to remember that you can't get your ranking just for fun -- only for clerkships.
