Warmup: OCIP 2009
OCIP bidding is upon us. Rising 2L's can find a list of previous threads by entering "OCIP" in the search field above (the OCIP/Employment label seems not to be working properly lately). Be sure not to miss Disco Stu's pearls of wisdom from 2005.
Chances are, any question left unanswered by those resources is irrelevant. But you should feel free to use this thread to ask anyway.
Good luck!

Yea I have a question. Would it be a good idea to rely solely on OCIP to get a job?
[CDO Voice] NO, NO, NO. NO. NO. [/CDO Voice]
I don't know. I keep thinking it would be a good idea to rely solely on OCIP, and not to pursue other avenues such as networking or using your personal contacts.
It depends on the type of job you want and your grades.
I can't believe I have to do this again...
Any other rising 3L get no-offered?
I can answer that right now.
Yes, they did. Start looking outside 3L oci right now, too. Look at smaller firms, non-profits, or clerkships. Look at any federal position (e.g., JAG).
Good luck to all. I know that it looks bleak, but I know that people in your position will find something, even if it takes a good amount of leg work.
11:14,
Best of luck, and this is all gonna be okay in the end. One way or another, we will somehow find work.
-- Rising 3L (who hasn't heard yet)
Did anyone else get a letter from ACS telling them that they have a payment due in September for the Bar Study Loan ($4200- interest-free until 2011 supposedly?)? What to do about it?
Yeah I also have a question. In this economy, what combo of grades should worry us? Couple H's and no P's? Couple P's and otherwise H's?
I remember reading an old OCI thread where people were saying that firms are tightening their demands on good grades (esp in this economy). Worrisome. And sorry, I'm not trying to fearmonger.
I wish I could point to couple of H's and mostly P's. I'm really scared about OCIP because I have all P's and everyone makes it sound like that means no one is going to hire me.
11:06--If you have a couple of H's and no P's (i.e. 4HH's and 2H's) you should worry, to say nothing of thos with lower grades. Only one 2L will get an offer this year, and that offer will be based soley on that person's near-perfect grades in all 6 1L classes. The offer will in no way be based on additional experience or qualifications.
I'm another in the all-Ps boat. Someone please tell us what to do (besides 'better this year')!
for those of you with all Ps who are worrying about your job prospects, the best i can tell you is that in years past, you still had a great shot. before, if you had the personality and characteristics that firms look for, jobs were still yours to have despite no Hs or HHs. for me personally, i had four job offers in three cities having just one HH and all Ps 1L.
of note, i know a guy at ucla law who was #1 in his class and didn't get a job because he was weird/awkward. i also know of some boalties with solid grades that didn't land a job.
as for current times, i really couldn't tell you anything other than the fact that your personality and fit, in addition to past experience and achievements, will be more important than ever.
good luck guys.
i got an offer on friday. all p's both years. i am most likely tied for last in the class.
If I got an AmJur, should I put that on my resume before OCIP?
10:16 AM-
Put the Amjur on your resume. It can serve as a talking point.
Rising 3Ls doing OCIP-
Anyone notice that there are practically no firms recruiting 3Ls? :-(
10:47,
