A Modest Proposal
Seriously, people, stop flipping out about the seating charts. You don't need to fill it out ahead of time. You don't need to have intra-mod email chains (tres, I'm looking at you) debating what the appropriate etiquette is because I'll make it very, very simple:
Go to class, sit in a seat. Fill in the chart once you sit in the seat. I understand that HHs only go to those in the first three rows in the middle, but you still look like a huge chomo filling that shit in early.
Love,
James

What about the people who use the pre-flight, online checkin feature at Southwest Airlines in order to get a window seat. Chomos?
Some fucktard took my seat in class today on the online seating chart. I was freaking sitting in it! This is out of control. It needs to end.
This must be new. I just graduated last year and can't even imagine what you're complaining about.
I've been trying to get chomo to catch on for years now. My dreams of incorporating into the parlance of our times are finally coming to fruition!
What is a chomo?
Patrick, can you do that with Southwest? Even their business select only gets A1 - A15, but still not assigned seats.
Plus, everyone knows the Aisle seat is better.
Sorry, maybe that wasn't clear. On Southwest, the earlier you sign up, the earlier you board. You can then sit wherever you want.
Isn't this like if Southwest let us all board (in the order we all checked in) and select our seats, then gave us computers and told us to tie our names to our seats, and then made us sit for the rest of the flight in the seat that our name actually got tied to (which doesn't necessarily equal the one we originally chose, because someone else may have been quicker to grab our seat "online")?
Ch = Child
Mo = Molester
Look, I would prefer to get to class and sign up for a seat after I sit in one. The fact is, other people don't do this and sign up early. So I do as well.
can we get a separate thread/shoutout about the class of 2009's 93% bar pass rate (July 2009)?
is there a mechanism for us outside protestors to choose a seat ahead of time? it can be hard on us when we show up at the last minute and the red hots have taken the "front and center" seats. i hate it when that happens.
Or just don't even bother with the seating chart. Show up to class. Sit where you want. No one is enough of a dick to say, "You are sitting in my seat."
Actually I had someone say you are sitting in my seat... even though the Prof had specifically said we could switch seats from last time.
I quietly gor up. Didn't want to deal.
One possible solution is to not activate the seating chart function until after the first week of classes. The principal of an online seating chart is fine but the way it is currently executed does tend to screw over people who want to switch classes during the first week (or don't want to talk to all of their friends about which seats they are going to sit in before the class has even started.)
3:24,
I did what you suggested last semester. I showed up to class and sat in a random seat. No one asked me to move. Great.
Then the prof said: "Please use the seating chart to sign up for a seat." The seat I was in had already been taken by someone else, so I had to take a seat right up front.
This semester I just signed up ahead of time. If the professor doesn't care, neither do I. But if he does, then I am covered.
Does this mean our USNWR rank is going to go up?? Boalt to T5!!!
Ugh.
A civ pro class had to completely reset its seating chart today because it was a giant clusterfuck.
I blame the kids who signed up ahead of time.
I lost my seat in an ethics class because someone signed up for where I was sitting yesterday.
Let me repeat that.
Someone stole my seat in ethics.
maybe they were just zealously asserting their own rights in a non-frivolous way.
