Graduation: The Second Most Anticipated Finale This Year

(I'll give you three guesses on #1.)

Someone in the thread below suggested we provide a forum for 3Ls saying goodbye this week. I had planned on posting something touching and sentimental after commencement, but for now, the commenter suggested we post one thing we'll miss about Boalt and one thing we won't. Given my decidedly mixed feelings on the subject, this seems appropriate. I'll go first.

I will miss: many of the people I encountered over the last three years.

I will not miss: many of the people I encountered over the last three years.

Just kidding, you're all great. Except you. You know who you are.

Re: most anticipated finale, I'm guessing you're referring to "Lost."

And, like "Lost," I'm guessing Boalt turns out to have actually been just a bad dream.

What is this I hear about some d-bag 3L (or newly minted J.D., as the case seems to have been) who sat down and protested at graduation? And made her kids do it to?! I wish someone had kicked her in the head.

Yeah, my take on that is the following:

1) It was a brilliant idea for a protest. She knew that no way would DE call in the police to remove a graduate from her own ceremony, so she could pretty much sit there as long as she wanted. Well conceived.

2) Well conceived, perhaps, but terribly executed. She held (/made her kids hold) two signs. The first read "Public education is for the PUBLIC!" The second said "Don't PRIVATIZE my future!," and was held by her little girl. What the hell do those mean? I assume that she is upset about the fee hikes, etc, but even as someone who is somewhat familiar with that issue, I was unclear on exactly what she wanted. And I can't tell you how many parents/family members I heard ask, "so what was that girl protesting?" Seems to me, if you are willing to interfere with the grad ceremony of all of your classmates for something you believe in, you should at least go through the effort of coming up with a sign that clearly and concisely conveys your point. Otherwise, it's just a waste.

Remember when that protestor blocked the path on the stage so people couldn't walk by her? Youd think she may have thought to create enough room for a wheelchair to get by. It just made her look like an even bigger turd.

Even worse, the student protester had the opportunity to explain and educate others about what her signs meant. When Dean E. had his pow-wow with her, he was explaining that the day was important for many people and told her she could make a speech at the podium. She ignored him. Isn't the point of a protest to be heard? And isn't a speech a better way to be heard than a sign?

This seriously happened? I am amazed that something even more annoying than Yoo protesters can occur at graduation.

WTF people, it is supposed to be one of the most STRESS FREE HAPPY DAYS in your life. And you intentionally screw that up for your entire class?

Also, you whored your children for your protest?

Let's keep it clean, fellas. This is a family blog.

By the way, how was the keynote speaker by the magistrate judge?

It's ok, B8 was AMAZING - best person for the job! Plus she was marginally better than last year's speaker.

And props to our class presidents. Well done guys - you made a wonderful speech.

Any idea (for us 1Ls) when people generally get grades over the summer?

7:03, they'll trickle in over the course of the month of June, which is to day the same timeline as last fall, maybe a bit longer.

Any advice (or any resources that we should look at) for how to tackle loan repayment?

Thanks
