Bring out the Sorting Hat

It's time for another year at Hogwarts. Although it seems most of the regular posters here are old and increasingly creepy alumni, this blog is still about Boaltkley Law Hall, and we want to hear what's new there. So, what's new? Any good stories from the first day? Have they forced you to take classes in an actual dirt hole yet? Was this guy there? Fill us in below, and if anyone wants to write a more informative post, consider this deleted.

Update: Caption Contest!

They stuck the 2Ls with the same shitty lockers as last year and the hallway isn't open yet.

An email was sent to the Boalt 2011 google group today from "Mr. Bear" .

Who is Mr. Bear, and why is a Robot Cat pretending to be a bear????

Are us alums "increasingly creepy" because we each get creepier as time goes on or because, each year, Boalt's graduating class is more creepy than the previous year's class? I vote the latter, that way I remain at one level of creepiness.

Caley, everyone knows you are by far the creepiest alum

@Dan, actually, I've been sitting here all day thinking about how much I like that I'm not going to school today: the free time is kind of calming.

Another year, another Yoo protest. I was particularly impressed with the paper mache head of John Yoo. It actually looked like him.

The 1Ls this year must be suffering from some form of lethargy or narcolepsy, because they are the slowest-moving group of people ever. (also: if you are going to stand around and talk in front of the magnetic scanners at the library entrance (which you shouldn't do), please stand to one side or the other, rather than in front of both sides)

The chanting protestors failed to disrupt John Yoo's actual class, as he dismissed the class early and got out before they arrived. They did, however, ruin the last 5 minutes of Samuelson's Copyright Law class, which ran the full scheduled time. So, standard senior citizen protesting ineptitude. (seconding 4:33pm though - it WAS a pretty sweet papier mache head)

5:52, you are having a rough go of it, aren't you? I know how it is -- what are your thoughts on the Zeb line?

That papier-mâché head (yes, I did look up how to spell it) was so impressive that someone actually took the time to send me a photo today. Here it is. Complete with 1L's standing around.

At first glance, I thought that sign in the photo said "Fire Proof Yoo."

That may be one of the funniest images I have ever seen. Why is one woman in a weird white sad face mask and the other one is wearing a nice sun hat?

Unbeknownst to Code Pink, the real John Yoo had hidden under the mask that morning and spent the entire day protesting himself.

Oh, come on. I was in that copyright class and the disruption wasn't that bad. And that mask is pretty sweet.

I think the online seating chart business has gotten out of hand. The seating charts for two of my three classes were almost entirely full before the first sessions of the classes ever started. Come on. At least with the paper seating charts, you had to actually have GOTTEN INTO a particular seat before you could claim it. Also, the profs usually didn't pass them around until a few days had passed to allow the wait list situation to shake out. The Business Associations seating chart was essentially full and there are still like 70 people on the waiting list and sitting in the aisles of the classroom!

Professor Y*o is withholding passing out the seating chart until the second week. Chalk that up as another reason to oppose the protesters!

Wow, am I the only 1L posting? This has been a great few days...and I walk fast, and don't crowd in the library so no mean talk. The protest was awesome, although our Mod class was moved from 10 to 115.

Another shot of the John Yoo head, showing off some of the fine workmanship. He was pre-gaming it at Strada. http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/1672/44425948975942501600782.jpg

I think the John Yoo head is proof that unemployment is a very serious problem.

The school is overrun. ~140 LLMs this year, up from ~80 two years ago. Also, transfer students have almost doubled in number from their record number last year.

Revenues are up I guess, the number of classrooms is down, and when I thought I was going to have to change my schedule around last week there was literally not a single class of the five that worked with my other commitments that had physical space to let me in.

I've really enjoyed my Berkeley legal education, and let's face it: I'm a 3L with a job offer so I'm just playing out the string and don't really care. It's gotten to the point where I'm not sure I'd recommend this school to a prospective student who had comparable options, though.
