Et Tu Harris?
Leiter is reporting that Professor Harris has accepted an offer from UC Davis. Not too long ago, Boalt was reviled in legal academia for poaching the finest talents from other schools at an aggressive rate. The trend of late seems to be in the other direction though. I suspect some of these names will show up in a DE PowerPoint presentation not too long in the future to justify greater donations / higher fees that would be needed to replace these talents. Just off the top of my head: Moran to UCLA as Dean, Bundy in private practice, Murphy to NYU, Shelanski to GULC / Feds, and now Harris.
I never had the pleasure of taking Professor Harris's courses, but I know she was invaluable in working with Boalties who wanted academic positions, including running an email list for those interested. So even from the non-classroom perspective, it's apparent that Boalt will miss her. I hope others will join me in wishing her well as she makes the move across I-80.

The "poaching" is not necessarily market related. Two of those faculty members referenced above left for personal reasons and/or needed to go to that specific city. I don't disagree with anything you've said, but just don't want to spread unwarranted fear amongst the Boalt community.
and Bundy's back now, isn't he?
If so, I clearly did not get the memo.
Professor Harris is an awesome professor. This is a huge loss for Boalt.
Bundy's back! And better than ever!
Bundy: now with 50% more procedure!
So why is Harris leaving? Is it for personal reasons? Academic?
Bundy just won the distinguished teaching award—he's back: http://www.law.berkeley.edu/10561.htm
Moran's move to UCLA is not quite the same as lateral poaching; she was appointed Dean of a phenomenal law school. I think that's something to celebrate, even if it comes at a short-term loss to the direct teaching/learning experience of Boalt students.
Finally, a lot of this movement is not market-related, but rather, related to the personal needs/goals of different faculty. Let's not try to connect a handful of moves, spaced over 5 years, and make the mistake of attributing a trend or interconnectedness.
I am truly saddened by Harris's move, but I don't think it can be attributed to the same movement as other listed examples.
It's related to Edley having an amazing ability to alienate progressive faculty.
how does he alienate the progressives?
UCLA is a phenomenal law school? Most people I know from there can't even attain legal employment at graduation.
