Let's Be Marines

Further to my thoughts that the issue of gay rights, although very, very far from ideal, has come a long way in the past few years, is this story about the Command Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps addressing the topic.  What really caught my eye:
“Article 1, Section 8 of the Constitution is pretty simple,” he told a group of Marines at a base in South Korea. “It says, ‘Raise an army.’ It says absolutely nothing about race, color, creed, sexual orientation.
 Take that, originalists/textualists!

Nice.
In other news, "boys" at the frat across the street were on the roof today, throwing water balloons at people and cars. Someone called the cops and they scattered off the roof real fast. In bar study mode, I of course was thinking battery etc. Who knows what the actual statutes are. Anyway, the cops knocked and knocked and they wouldn't open up.

This post would be tolerable as just another boring comment if the point it was making wasn't so retarded.

Here's a tip for the future: if you're getting your legal arguments from people who haven't even gone to college, it's probably not worth reposting.

Thanks anon for reminding us that whatever is said by people who have not gone to college, whether or not correct, should be ignored. Had they gone to a small liberal arts school and studied African Tribal Dance perhaps their opinions would be valid!

8:57, your comment would be mildly tolerable if you understood that the point of the post is not to make a legal argument and actually knew a thing or two before opining, such as the fact that NCOs, in particular the Command Sergeant Major, are very influential in forming the attitudes of Marines. Actually no, even then it wouldn't be tolerable. But thanks for trying.

We have 25% of people in this country out of work and what concerns us is if gays can openly die in pointless wars. Ok...

You know, 10:22, people are often able to be concerned about more than one thing at a time. One of the many benefits of being human.

I love the "dumb point - sensible counterpoint" trend happening here!

10:22 - The reason it concerns us is because that's what Jesus cares about. Not whether or not people are employed.

Sgt. Major Barrett would have a much better point if Article 1, Section 8 didn't also say "make regulation of the land and naval forces."

So, if i understand that Marine, he's basically arguing that the Air Force is unconstitutional?

Well no, you don't understand the Marine. But the argument you reference has been made by law professors as well.
