"Onceling" Fad Takes Over Finals

In what can only be described as "the next big thing," Onceling takes Boalt Hall by storm.

What is Onceling?  It's a move that pays homage to both planking, owling and studying so hard during finals your ass hurts and you have to study with it up in the air.

As pictured, the pose involves sitting on your knees with reading material in front of your face, your arms or hands also placed on the surface in front of you and your posterior extended.  Be on the look out for this hot new move at your nearest bar or restaurant.  Our Official N&B prediction: Bieber will be Onceling within weeks.

This looks like great training for certain aspects of practice as well.

I <3 Boalt. With the exception of the N&B comments section, it is an amazing (and weird) community.

Patrick's comment is by far the funniest thing to come from "Onceling." Thanks, man.

Oh you kids. I'm curious to know what is the etymology of "onceling".

No one else thinks this is stupid?

It's fun, it's funny, it brought the Boalt community together during finals. You're stupid.

Schizophrenia is not split-personality disorder.

Also, I just don't get this onceling thing. Why is this happening?!

We thought it was really strange that no one had talked shit about it yet in the comments, but y'all came through.

The name derives from the last name of the individual who made the pose famous.

Let's face it, James, most things you do and say are stupid.

How brave of you to say so, anonymous poster.

Seriously, maybe it's finals or something, but the trolls are out in force lately.

@9:23... I think so in that like most things "hipster," 20 people get to decide what's funny (and I'm sure it was funny situationally) and the rest of us either go with it or are "stupid"...thanks anon @7:23.

Either we pretend to think it's funny when we don't really get it because we don't know who "Oncel" is or if we do, we don't know him/her well enough to understand why it's funny or we are killjoys for being slightly annoyed at tons of pictures of the previously-mentioned 20 people on all fours....which is why I maintain that Patrick's comment is the funniest part this whole thing: simple, just crude enough, and universally appreciable by anyone in law school.

10:29, if you don't think it's funny, then why trouble yourself over it? I think that's the easy solution here, no? You don't have to look at the pictures and you certainly don't have to participate. There's not really any "we" here having to "pretend to think it's funny." Just go on your merry way like usual without bothering yourself about it or spending time posting comments about it on law school blogs. You frame it like this is 20 people deciding what's funny for *you* but really it's just 20 (actually, more like 200) people deciding they find it funny for *themselves.* If you don't, go find something else to make you giggle, and make use of that Facebook "hide all" function!

On the other hand, though, if you appreciate the levity and you find yourself getting a bit slap-happy during finals, like 200 of your classmates who like the Facebook page, then take a ridiculous picture and post it. I promise you the only thing that will happen is that you'll make a bunch of people smile - people who, maybe, you didn't know that well until you saw a picture of them reading a book on the ceiling and laughed for 25 minutes.

@10:29 Typical, anything to fit in. In terms of facebook's "hide all" function that was so cleverly referred to, no amount of unsubscribing saved me from this stupidity, not to mention it was all over campus, the library, the student center, etc
