Call of the Weil
A commenter below requests that people post when they get call back offers. If you're so inclined, feel free to post anonymously (although I'm not so sure just HOW anonymous it will be).
I'm creating this post to the extent that readers might be interested. But I want to add my own personal thought that this is much ado about nothing. I don't understand the frenzy surrounding this whole process. You WILL get a job. It's unfortunate that you only get one chance to interview as a summer associate (assuming you weren't a summer associate last year) but at the same time barring a criminal history or a loud fart during every single interview, I think we'll all do fine. I also want to add that if any firm ever asks me why they should not hire me, the one answer that I will ever give is that because my classmates are incredibly brilliant and far more qualified than me. Best of luck to every one.

I would just like to add that there is wireless in the student chill room. There's a no-password WAP called "linksys" (poor ignorant owner) that gives me two bars of signal.
Let the madness begin!
Fenwick has begun making callback offers.
Gunderson Dettmer (interviewed on Wednesday) has begun making callback offers.
By the way, any 3L will tell you that the CDO's e-mail is incorrect in asserting that most interviewees get callbacks within 48 hours. A few firms do this, but I don't think it's the norm. Give it at least a week before worrying.
ditto for Downey Brand (Wednesday interview)
howard rice (wednesday)
Heller - Friday.
Armen, would you please explain the cleverness of this posting's title? I'm at a loss
I suggest you pay a visit to Jack London Square in Oakland.

Cox Castle (LA, interviewed Thursday, callback Friday)

Steefel callback on Weds.
simpson thacher callback on tues via snail mail
shearman & sterling rejection letter wed.
For all those, like me, who have yet to hear a yea or nay from any firm (I've done 12 interviews) I had an interview with Farella today and they told me it would take 2 (TWO) weeks to hear something.
Hope springs eternal.
Now that we're heading into the next week, can people use dates as well as days of the week (e.g. soon we'll be trying to figure out which Friday someone's referring too)?
By the way, Armen, this is a nice idea...it helps those who "need to know."
9/21 - Heller rejection via EMAIL! I guess times are tough over there.
Howry callback via email
Hey - A month or so ago, Armen mentioned the rumor that this might happen. It happened!

Irell, Quinn to Hike First-Year Salaries
Kellie Schmitt
The Recorder
09-22-2005
Irell & Manella will raise first-year associates' base salary to $135,000 next year, a $5,000 increase that is already sending ripples through the Southern California legal industry.
I interviewed with MoFo SF and have not received a MoFo rejection postcard.
Has anyone here received a MoFo callback by phone call or other means?
I just want to say that for all of you that are not too concnerned about being lawyers, I am starting a fashion consulting business specifically for attorneys. I think there's much more money to be made there!! Rates begin at $30.00 per hour. (Hey, McDonoalds started with only one golden arch, and look at them now!) If any venture capitalists are interested, hit me back.
Has anyone actually done an OCIP callback already (actually gone to the firm for the requisite 3-6 hours?)

By the way, we are all rock stars, because if we weren't, we would not be here. (Except for me; somehow Prop 209 missed me! Oh well.) We all will be ok. Remember that.
don't forget to use dates and please write the office of the firm you're talking about.
schulte roth NY call back last friday, the 16. Milbank Tweed NY reject snail mail the 19th
Hey 9:13, I've done two call-backs with firms. They each lasted 4.5 hours and I met with 5 and 8 people.
This is the best part though, both times they took me to lunch at the same place. Imagine that, a huge perk of a free meal and I go to the same shitty restaurant both times. The second time I was almost about to tell the people that I had been there before (I would have left out the fact that it was a call-back) and don't get what I ordered (item withheld to protect me). Wouldn't you know it, they both ordered it.
They're exhausting and really not much fun but that could, and probably does, depend on the firm.
MoFo SF call back Wed, 21. MoFo Walnut Creek call back last week.
9/22 MoFo Palo Alto callback
Orrick SF callback (phone) 9/21
Ropes & Gray at the interview 9/19
I just got a Kirkland rejection letter. Why did I volunteer to help the homeless in high school? Stupid!
I know we are getting ridiculous with the necessary info but can we also write if you are a 2/3L - just so that there can be yet another reason to still have hope?
I've been meaning to add a few ideas of my own. Can people also add if:
-- Interviewer had firm or so/so handshake.
-- Person after you knocked 10-20 seconds early.
-- Boxers or briefs?
-- You used note cards, web printouts, or FOIA requests to research the firm
-- Considered inviting interviewer to bar review
-- Your grades
But on a substantive level, just state if you are a 3L, otherwise the assumption is you're 2L.
9/22 - Fulbright callbacks today - at least for the east coast
greenberg (east coast) callback this afternoon.

10 interviews, not a damn thing back but a rejection letter from Howard Rice dated --and miraculously received-- on 9/20. Anybody hate this as much as I do? The more I'm around lawyers, the less I want to be one.
9/22 steefel callback--in a letter
2L
query--how many callbacks is enough to practically ensure a job?
further query--what to do if you want to cancel a callback you've accepted but now realize you don't want to work there and think they could give it to someone else?
The following from Yale Law is useful in answering the second question. And just as a practical matter, that school's CDO website resources are far fucking better than our counterintuitive crap. Just ignore the sections on faculty placement and clerkships.
which sonnenschein office and who did you interview with?
9/22 - cleary gottlieb callback by email
9/23 Paul Hastings SF callback by email.
I have to second what Armen says about Yale's CDO site. Check it out for comprehensive information on formalities, etiquette, etc.
